Semaglutide was developed by Novo Nordisk and is sold as a medicine under the brand names Ozempic and Wegovy.
In the STEP 1 trial (N Engl J Med, 2021), adults with overweight or obesity on weekly semaglutide lost 14.9% of their body weight on average over 68 weeks, compared with 2.4% on placebo.
